Wyndham Clark Wins CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Calls It a ‘Comeback’ After Oakmont Downfall

Wyndham Clark is back.

The 2023 U.S. Open champion fired an 11-under 60 in the final round at TPC Craig Ranch to win the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, finishing at 30-under 254, three strokes clear of Si Woo Kim. Clark made nine birdies and an eagle without a bogey, snapping a two-year win drought for his fourth career PGA Tour title.

Clark poured in a 15-foot eagle putt on 12, a 44-foot birdie putt on 15, and a 12-foot birdie putt on 17 to clinch the victory.

After the round, Clark addressed the difficult stretch that preceded the win. “What happened last year at Oakmont wasn’t the greatest thing,” Clark said. “The greatest thing about having a downfall like that is the comeback and today feels really special after having a really tough year and grinding it out.”

At the 2025 U.S. Open, Clark missed the cut and went into a locker room and damaged it. He received significant backlash from the golf community and was banned from Oakmont.

The putting was the story all week. Clark picked up 12.5 strokes gained putting on the week, a remarkable turnaround from a player who had been averaging -0.65 strokes gained putting per round through the Masters this season.

“There were definitely times I was concerned about it,” Clark said of his win drought. “The one good thing is I saw some momentum in the fall working with my swing coach and this whole year I’ve been playing good golf. I just haven’t had the results so people haven’t maybe seen that, and it’s nice to have it all come together this week.”

Kim, who made 33 birdies for the week, was gracious in defeat. “I’m a little frustrated, but there’s nothing I can do. Wyndham played so good,” he said. “If I keep knocking on the door, something’s coming. I can feel it.”
