Cameron Young’s 2022 LIV Golf Agreement Revealed in Bankruptcy Filings

LIV Golf’s bankruptcy filings list a “Cameron Young LIV Golf Letter Agreement dated July 24, 2022.” The entry appears in schedules of executory contracts filed Thursday in the league’s Chapter 11 case in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey. Young never joined LIV.

The agreement is listed under the name “Young, David Cameron,” with his address redacted. It is marked “rejected as of September 8, 2026,” the day LIV filed for bankruptcy. The same agreement appears in at least two of the filings.

The listing does not say whether Young signed the agreement or what terms it included. It also does not state how much money, if any, was involved.

The date stands out. July 24, 2022 was exactly one week after Young finished solo second to Cameron Smith at the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews.

The agreement was also listed in LIV’s initial bankruptcy filings in September. Those filings include a letter agreement for Joaquin Niemann dated Aug. 28, 2022, two days before LIV announced Niemann as one of its new signings.

Young went the other way. After the 2022 Tour Championship at East Lake on Aug. 28, he told reporters he had seriously considered LIV before deciding to stay on the PGA Tour.

“It’s obviously the elephant in the room for everyone,” Young said. “Frankly, throughout the whole process with them, I was very interested. I mean, frankly, I have decided to stay.”

Young pointed to changes the PGA Tour announced that summer as the deciding factor. “With some of those changes coming, that’s what really helped me decide to stay and pursue those goals that I have for myself, like making the Presidents Cup team or Ryder Cup team and winning a major, when all of that is just uncertain if you go,” he said. “It’s a tough place for me because I’m very young.”

Young was part of the players-only meeting that preceded those changes. “I was there to listen,” he said.

He also expected the PGA Tour’s strength to hold up. “We don’t know who’s going to go after this week or next year,” Young said. “I think there’s a really nice core group of guys that are just going to stay, and a lot of them are highly ranked players in the world. I don’t think the competition on the PGA Tour is going to go downhill significantly.”

Smith joined LIV days later. Young was named the PGA Tour’s Rookie of the Year after a 2022 season with five runner-up finishes.

Young has since won three times on the PGA Tour: the 2025 Wyndham Championship, the 2026 Players Championship and the 2026 Cadillac Championship. He is No. 3 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
