Tiger Woods was arrested Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence after his Land Rover rolled over following a crash on Jupiter Island, Florida. Neither Woods nor the driver of the other vehicle was injured.
According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the crash occurred just after 2 p.m. ET on South Beach Road, not far from where Woods lives. Woods was attempting to pass a pressure cleaner truck on the two-lane road when he clipped the back end of the truck’s trailer and his vehicle rolled onto its driver’s side. Woods crawled out through the passenger side door.
Budensiek described Woods as “lethargic on scene” and said he “did exemplify signs of impairment.” Woods took a breathalyzer test and blew triple zeroes, indicating no alcohol in his system. He refused to submit to a urine test while in custody. The arresting deputy noted Woods had bloodshot eyes and “extremely” dilated pupils. Woods confirmed to the officer that he had taken “a few” prescription medications earlier that day. Two pills found in his pocket were identified as hydrocodone, a prescription opioid used to treat chronic pain.
Woods was charged with two misdemeanors: DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He was booked into Martin County Jail.
This is Woods’ second DUI arrest. In 2017, South Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car parked in a lane of traffic. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
Woods, 50, had been working his way back from a seventh back surgery performed in September. His last official tournament was The Open Championship in 2024. He ruptured his Achilles tendon in March 2025, keeping him off the course for the entire season. He had been weighing whether he was fit enough to compete in the Masters, which begins April 9. He also had a soft deadline approaching to decide whether to serve as U.S. Ryder Cup captain for the 2027 matches in Ireland.

Three days before the arrest, Woods played in the TGL finals with the Jupiter Links Golf Club.
