LIV Golf’s future was thrown into question after executives were called to an emergency meeting in New York City.
Reporter Ryan French, who runs the popular X account Monday Q Info, shared that a “bombshell announcement” was coming regarding LIV Golf, later explaining during a Spaces session on X that he had heard sources saying LIV was shutting down.
The following morning, James Corrigan of The Telegraph reported that LIV Golf executives had been called to a meeting in New York, noteworthy given that LIV was set to begin a tournament in Mexico City on Thursday.

The Financial Times also reported that Saudi Arabia’s PIF was “on the verge of cutting its support for LIV Golf,” with an announcement on the tour’s future expected as soon as Thursday.
Adding to the speculation, the LIV Golf media center was closed on Tuesday ahead of its planned event in Mexico City, the first time in the tour’s four-year history that the media center had been closed.

Per The Telegraph, the meeting had nothing to do with a potential merger with the DP World Tour, and players were being left in the dark.
The rumors came amid a broader period of roster attrition for the league. Brooks Koepka, one of LIV’s most prominent signings when the league launched in 2022, departed ahead of the 2026 season, with LIV Golf describing the split as “amiable” and Koepka citing a desire to prioritize his family. Patrick Reed was also set to return to the PGA Tour.
