Jordan Spieth Tests L.A.B. Golf Mallet at Travelers Championship Pro-Am

Jordan Spieth had a L.A.B. Golf VZN.1i mallet putter in his bag during the Travelers Championship pro-am Wednesday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The test is notable because Spieth has used a Scotty Cameron 009 for almost his entire career, winning three major championships with it. He made his first putter switch in nearly eight years at the 2025 WM Phoenix Open, debuting a T.P. Mills Trad II, and has been using it all of 2026.

Per Golfweek, Spieth started the pro-am with a 35-inch version at a 70-degree lie angle pulled directly from the TPC River Highlands demo bag. L.A.B. shipped a custom 35.5-inch model with a 69-degree lie angle to the course and delivered it to Spieth while he was playing his round.

Spieth enters the Travelers ranked 57th on tour in strokes gained putting, but ranks 117th in total putting and 110th in putts from 4 to 8 feet. He ranked as high as 17th in strokes gained putting earlier in the season and 155th in 2024, the worst of his career.

Spieth discovered the T.P. Mills Trad II while testing putters in his basement during a left wrist injury recovery. He adopted it after finding it more stable than other options he tried, and finished T4 at the WM Phoenix Open in his first start with it.

Whether the L.A.B. makes it into Spieth’s bag for the tournament remains to be seen. Spieth won the Travelers Championship in 2017 in his tournament debut, holing a bunker shot on the first playoff hole to beat Daniel Berger. Spieth tees off Thursday at 1:45 p.m. ET alongside Keegan Bradley.
