Tyrrell Hatton’s Walk-Up Song Was a Not-So-Subtle Hint About His LIV Golf Future

Tyrrell Hatton’s walk-up song at the party hole during LIV Golf Indianapolis was “I Want to Break Free” by Queen. According to Flushing It, Hatton bragged to other players in the locker room that the song choice was intentional.

According to Fried Egg Golf’s PJ Clark and Joseph LaMagna, who discussed the moment on Friday’s Shotgun Start podcast, Hatton told other players the song was a hint that he is leaving LIV Golf after this season regardless of what happens with the league. Flushing It reported that Hatton is expected to return to the DP World Tour for a full season in 2027.

Hatton was not the only Legion XIII player with a pointed walk-up song choice. His teammate, Tom McKibbin, opted for “Breaking Free” from High School Musical, which drew a reaction from his playing partners, including Jon Rahm.

Hatton signed with LIV Golf in January 2024, joining Jon Rahm’s newly formed Legion XIII team. He has won twice on LIV Golf, most recently at LIV Golf Andalucía this season. Hatton shot an opening-round 67 on Thursday at LIV Golf Indianapolis, the final event of LIV’s 2026 season after the league’s planned finale in Michigan was canceled.

A potential Hatton departure would follow his Legion XIII captain, Rahm, who is also expected to leave LIV Golf after the 2026 season. It would also come as LIV Golf navigates the loss of its Saudi Public Investment Fund backing, with the league’s season finale in Michigan canceled and lawsuits pending over unpaid services.
