The PGA Tour announced Tuesday that match play is coming to its postseason beginning in 2028, with the Tour Championship rotating among prestigious venues. Per ESPN, Pine Valley Golf Club, Cypress Point Club and Seminole Golf Club are among the courses under consideration.
The Tour Championship will feature a reimagined postseason with the introduction of match play, contested across a rotation of prestigious courses, many of which the PGA Tour would play for the first time. The event could be held at an iconic venue not capable of hosting a traditional full-field PGA Tour event.
That is the detail that makes these clubs even a possibility. None of the three, or other prestigious private clubs like them, could host a standard 120-man stroke play event. A small-field match play bracket designed around television would allow these clubs to potentially participate on their own terms.

All three clubs have precedent for limited-access hosting. Cypress Point last appeared on the PGA Tour as part of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am from 1947 through 1990. The 2025 Walker Cup at Cypress Point sold out its 4,100-ticket allotment, with Golf Channel broadcasting Sunday singles during prime time. Seminole Golf Club hosted the Walker Cup in 2021, and Pine Valley hosted it in 1936 and 1985, with another date scheduled for 2044.

Other potential rotation sites include Chicago Golf Club and Merion Golf Club outside Philadelphia, as well as Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and National Golf Links of America.
Merion has hosted 19 USGA championships, more than any course in the country, including five U.S. Opens. Chicago Golf Club has hosted 12 USGA championships. National Golf Links of America hosted the inaugural Walker Cup in 1922 and again in 2013. Bandon Dunes has hosted nine USGA amateur championships and is scheduled to host the 2028 Walker Cup.
The Tour Championship will remain at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta through 2027. Full details on format and expected locations will be provided in the first quarter of 2027.
