Jason Williams is putting Team Finch’s Internet Invitational elimination on his captain. On the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast, the former NBA star tore into Peter Finch’s Day 1 strategy at Ozarks National.
“Our captain, I think that was the first time he’s ever captained anything,” Williams said. “I don’t know if he ever had the ball to fumble.”
Team Finch led Team Ruffels 4.5-3.5 after the morning scramble. Williams said the team only needed four points from the eight afternoon alternate shot matches, but Finch stacked his best players at the top of the lineup.
“He come in and he put our best two players together out in the first match, our third and fourth best players out in the second match, and then our fifth and sixth best player out in the third match, and then our seventh and eighth best player out in the fourth match, thinking we were going to win those first four,” Williams said.
“And if we didn’t win those first four, you got motherf***ers like me down there trying to carry us across the finish line. That ain’t happening.”

Williams said Finch never consulted him on the pairings.
“He didn’t ask me anything about who I wanted to play with or anything I thought, which I don’t give a f*** because I knew we was fitting to lose after buddy did what he did,” Williams said.
He compared the move to a basketball coach mismanaging a lineup in a Game 7. “That’s like J.J. Redick going in and putting five white guys out there in Game 7 in the second half,” Williams said. “Basketball is a lot easier than golf. Golf is way harder. But the way he did it, that wasn’t it.”
“He’s definitely a golfer, an individual player, not a team guy, never been on a team in his life, obviously,” Williams said.
Finch fired back on X. He quote-tweeted Barstool Sports’ clip of the interview and wrote, “Brother was high then and he’s high now.”
Dave Portnoy, whose Barstool Sports produces the Internet Invitational with Bob Does Sports, sided with Finch in a reply to his post. “Jwill my guy but point Finch,” Portnoy wrote.
YouTube golfer Robby Berger stayed neutral. “Never thought we would see this out of Finchy on the clap back,” Berger wrote. “Big J Will guy and big Finch guy, just want a clean battle here if anything. The internet invitational brings everything out of ya, never seen anything like it.”

Williams made it clear he does not want to play for Finch again. “If I’m lucky enough to go back there and he chooses me again, I’m Steve Francis-ing it,” he said. “I’m not playing until I get traded. I’m not playing for that team. No way.”
He also questioned whether Finch should return at all. “He shouldn’t even be there next year,” Williams said. “He didn’t even know I was on his team. I’ll bet you that.”
Williams said he will not respond in Team Finch’s group chat, though his issue is only with the captain. “I like all those people in that group chat. Everybody that was on my team,” he said. “But the captain, got an issue with.”
“Nobody’s saying anything about the captain because I don’t know if anybody wants that kind of smoke,” Williams added. “I’m not saying that I want smoke with Peter Finch because that’s a waste of time.”
Williams went 0-2 on Day 1. He and Luke Kwon lost 1 up to Big John and Fat Perez in the morning scramble, and he and Cass Marie lost 3&2 to Ryan Whitney and Micah Morris in alternate shot.
Team Ruffels rallied to tie the day 8-8, then won a sudden-death playoff on the 18th when Big John holed a birdie putt. Episode 4 premieres Thursday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. ET on YouTube.
