U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker credited President Donald Trump after the Americans rallied to win the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club on Sunday. The U.S. overturned a 10.5-7.5 deficit entering singles and beat the International Team 17-13.
Snedeker made the comments in his NBC interview after the Cup was clinched. He started with his players. “I think these guys never lost faith,” Snedeker said. “I know what that team room is like. I told the guys last night that funny stuff happens here. Medinah has a history of funny things happening.”
“I’m so damn proud of those guys,” he said. “All these guys fought for each other, fought for this country, fought for this team.”
Then he turned to the president. “And one last shout-out to Donald Trump, President Trump,” Snedeker said. “He told me I was going to bring some energy today for you guys, you guys need it, and I told him if we did this, he gets all the credit. Thank you, President Trump.”

Trump attended Sunday’s session as the event’s honorary chairman, the second time he has held the role. He greeted and shook hands with each U.S. and International pairing on the first tee before the 12 singles matches began.
He kept his remarks to the crowd brief. “You know, the fake news media will say I got a very bad reception,” Trump said. “These people want to see golf; they don’t want to hear speeches. I’ll only say this: Our country is doing great, better than ever before.”
The crowd chanted “USA” over some scattered boos before Trump spoke, per the Chicago Sun-Times. Spectators passed through metal detectors, and Secret Service agents were stationed across the grounds.
The Americans entered Sunday trailing on home soil for the first time in event history. They won nine of the 12 singles matches, the biggest Sunday rout in Presidents Cup history.
Snedeker loaded the top of his lineup. Cameron Young led off and beat Ryo Hisatsune 3&2 after falling 2 down through four holes. Justin Thomas won five of his first six holes against Corey Conners and closed out a 5&3 win. Scottie Scheffler followed with a 2&1 win over Nico Echavarria.

Two key matches flipped on the back nine. Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa turned his around, and 21-year-old rookie Jackson Koivun won four of five holes after trailing Si Woo Kim 2 down through 10. Jacob Bridgeman secured the clinching point against Min Woo Lee.
Snedeker had blamed himself for the three-point deficit entering Sunday. The first-time captain played on the 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup team that lost to Europe at Medinah after leading 10-6 entering singles.
Trump presented the trophy to Snedeker at the closing ceremony. The win was the U.S. team’s 11th straight in the Presidents Cup, improving its all-time record to 14-1-1.
