Brandt Snedeker drew a blank on live TV Saturday at Medinah. The U.S. captain was talking with NBC Sports’ Cara Banks before the afternoon foursomes, and she asked what he had changed after Friday’s disastrous session, when the Internationals swept all five foursomes matches.
Snedeker began explaining his lineup, got as far as Chris Gotterup and stalled. “Sorry, my head’s spinning a little bit right now, going with C.G. and, uh…” Snedeker said. Banks filled in the blank with Cameron Young, Snedeker thanked her, and the clip made the rounds on social media within minutes.

The name he was reaching for belonged to his hottest pairing of the day. Gotterup and Young had just beaten Nick Taylor and Corey Conners 2&1 in the morning four-balls, part of a 2.5-1.5 session win that cut the U.S. deficit to three points. Snedeker was sending the same duo straight back out for foursomes.
It was a pairing a day in the making. Per Golf Channel, Gotterup and Young were supposed to team up in Friday foursomes before Justin Thomas got the spot instead. Gotterup, a rookie captain’s pick, sat out Friday entirely after he and Patrick Cantlay lost to Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim on Thursday.
In the afternoon, the forgotten pairing delivered the U.S. team’s best result of the week. Gotterup and Young played the first seven holes in 5 under to go 5 up on Adam Scott and Sungjae Im. Young eagled the par-5 third for the second straight session, and the Americans closed out a 6&4 win after 14 holes. Gotterup is now 2-1 for the week, and Young is 2-2.

The interview came on the same afternoon Snedeker benched World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler for foursomes. Scheffler’s foursomes record stands at 1-8-0 in the Presidents Cup and 0-4-0 in the Ryder Cup. Snedeker told Golf Channel that Scheffler had been carrying the weight of the team, and it was time for his teammates to lift him up.
That move didn’t pay off. Sam Burns, who had partnered Scheffler in all three of his matches, went out with Wyndham Clark instead. They were 2 up after two holes but lost 3&2 to Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee, and the Internationals split the afternoon session 2-2.
The International Team takes a 10.5-7.5 lead into Sunday’s 12 singles matches. The Internationals need five points to win, while the U.S. needs eight to reach 15.5.
